Have you ever thought about living in Spain instead of the UK? If you have, you're in for a real treat.
There are many things you'll have to consider when moving to Spain. The weather, laws, and all sorts of other things are different.
But you may not have considered something a bit closer to your heart-what will you do with your pet when you move?
You can, of course, bring your pet with you, but there are some rules when it comes to bringing pets to Spain. Keep reading for everything you need to know.
Your Pet is Welcome in Spain
Before we go much further, let's establish the fact that Spain doesn't have anything against your pet. That is unless your pet doesn't meet Spain's requirements.
You'll need to acquire some papers for your furry friend's move to Spain. Make sure these are specific to Spain and any other countries you'll go through on your way there.
Note that some dog breeds are not allowed to enter Spain. If you have a breed of dog that's considered aggressive, check the list first.
Chips and Vaccinations Required
First things first, your pet will have to be microchipped. If it isn't already, get this done well in advance of your move.
Why so early? Because you'll have other things to worry about.
Vaccinations must be up to date-including those for rabies-and they must be done at least 21 days before your move. You can get them done earlier, but vaccinations given more than a year before you move won't count, so you'll have to do them again.
If your pet is less than three months old you may have to follow age-specific guidelines when it comes to vaccinations.
Non-Commercial Transport
When bringing your pet from the UK you'll need to sign a Declaration of Non-Commercial Transport. This declaration makes it clear that you're keeping the pet as your own.
Flight Requirements
If you'll be flying to Spain, make sure you check with the airline for their policy on pets. Make sure you have the right type of pet container and that you follow all airline-specific rules.
Pet Passport
When bringing your pet from the UK to Spain you'll need to get an EU Pet Passport. You can get this from your veterinarian.
Bringing Pets to Spain-It's Not as Hard as it Sounds
Bringing pets to Spain may sound difficult, but it sounds like more of a hassle than it is. Really, you just have to follow a few simple rules.
These rules certainly aren't enough to keep you from bringing your furry friend along, as long as it isn't on the restricted list. So follow each rule, and soon the two of you will be enjoying your new life in Spain.
