Visiting a Hospital in Spain Made Easy

What to Do in the Case of an Emergency?

If you are experiencing a medical emergency then you should head to the nearest hospital with an emergency department. You will need to show proof of your health insurance and your ID, but in an emergency situation you would be refused treatment if you don’t have these with you.

If you are unable to take yourself to the hospital then the following emergency numbers may prove useful:

  • All emergencies: dial 112
  • Ambulance: dial 112 or 061
  • Police: dial 092
  • Fire brigade: dial 112 or 080

Finding your Nearest Hospital

If you don’t already know where your nearest public or private hospital is then you can visit the Spanish health ministry website to access a full list of hospitals, clinics, and emergency services near you. Add a translator option to this website, as it is only available in Spanish as standard.
