Malaga is well known for the high quality of its produce, and as harvest season begins in September, it is the perfect time of year to sample the freshest and finest ingredients that the province has to offer.
If you’re a foodie then that means there’s no better time of year to visit the region. Some of the best and most famous seasonal produce in the region includes muscatel raisins, aloreña olives, ajoblanco and almonds. The towns and villages that produce these delicacies are rightly proud of their work.

Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano (3-8 September 2024)
This is a festival celebrating fried or pickled anchovies and it has grown considerably in recent years. You’ll find celebrations and activities dedicated to the event in bars and restaurants across the city. It is considered an important Andalucian culinary festival, and chefs from the area will take part in cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions.
Feria de la Vendimia de Mollina (6-8 September 2024)
If it’s wine, rather than anchovies, that set your tastebuds alight then try the Feria de la Vendimia de Mollina. Hosted in Mollina, a town in the Antequera region, where not one but 3 prestigious wineries are located. A fair is hosted here each year offering macro-tasting of local wines. There’s also a bicycle parade, and the festival has a cultural element with literature, art and music being a key focus of the celebration.
Fiesta del Ajoblanco de Almáchar (7 September 2024)
This event is hosted on the first Saturday of September every year, and has been since the turn of the century. It is one of the most popular gastronomic events in Andalucia. The main attract of this event is that the hosts offer thousands of glasses of ajoblanco, a recipe historically linked to this village in La Axarquía, free of charge to those attending. Another element this fiesta is well-known for is the sweet muscatel grapes that you can taste and buy in the town.
Fiesta de Viñeros de Moclinejo (8 September 2024)
If you want to enjoy a whole weekend of festivals, then after you leave the Fiesta del Ajoblanco de Almáchar on Saturday you can head to the Fiesta de Viñeros de Moclinejo on the Sunday. This takes place in Moclinejo, which is a village close by, and always takes place on the second Sunday in September. The aim of this festival is to pay tribute to the vineyard workers who work hard every harvest to gather the delicate and aromatic muscatel grapes each year. This is a fun and raucous festivity.
Feria de la Aceituna de Alozaina (13 –15 September 2024)
This is a festival for olive lovers! It celebrates the first table olives to be harvested in the province of Malaga, and this year it will be a little later than usual due to a delayed harvest. Every year, the village that devotes the largest amount of its land area to the aloreña variety of olive, which has its own protected designation of origin, and then holds a themed festival to celebrate it. If you want to taste the first marinated olives of the season then there’s nowhere better to be!
The other element of this feria is a religious one. The celebration is linked to the Virgen del Dulce Nombre de María. So before the feria begins on the 12th September, the statue of the Virgen del Dulce Nombre de María is paraded through the streets of the village. If you plan to visit for the festival it’s worth arriving early for this spectacle too.
Fiesta de la Cabra Malagueña Casabermeja (13-15 September 2024)
You’ll have to choose between the Feria de la Aceituna de Alozaina and the Feria de la Aceituna de Alozaina as they’re both being hosted on the same weekend this year. This festival revolves around all things related to the native breed of goat here, so if you like goat’s cheese you certainly won’t be disappointed.
There will be a tapas route around the town, a cheese market, and plenty of interesting food workshops. The event lasts a full 3 days giving you plenty of time to visit the town’s restaurants and try dishes made with suckling kid meat and goat's cheese in different restaurants in the town. There will also be guided tours of Casabermeja's main monuments as part of the festivities.
Día de la Pasa El Borge (15 September 2024)
If you’re not familiar with it, El Borge is the raisin that is made from the Muscat of Alexandria grape, and on the 3rd Sunday of September you can join the local people to celebrate it. You can see demonstrations of crop harvesting, raisin production, and wine production with the grapes. The celebration will also include food tastings focusing on gourmet dishes, and there will be musical performances by local folk bands to add a lively tone.
Día de la Almendra de Almogía (29 September 2024)
Finally, the last Sunday of September is a relatively new festival that celebrates the production of almond trees. These form a key part of this regions landscape as well as their agricultural output. There will be tastings of products or dishes whose main ingredients are almonds, as well as a great festive atmosphere. Traditional folk music and dancing will also take place here, adding to the fun.
