The Easter Week Weather in Spain for 2024

Easter week is the start of the holiday season in Spain, with tourists beginning to descend on the country. But it is also a very important week for Spanish residents, with Semana Santa (the week leading up to Easter Sunday) being one of the most significant religious holiday periods in Spain. Many Spanish people will take the whole week off to enjoy the celebrations and will be avidly watching the weather forecast hoping for warm and sunny days during the parades and processions. So, what will the weather be like in Spain for Easter week 2024? Here’s everything you need to know:

Easter Weather in Spain

Easter weather in Spain can be unpredictable. Sometimes the country sees rain and hail showers, other years the whole country will be bathing in glorious sunshine. This year Semana Santa will fall between 25th and 31st March, meaning that many forecasters have already shared their weather predictions. Whilst these will become more accurate the closer to the Easter period we get, at this point we already know that temperatures are expected to be higher than average across the country. This is great news for many of those planning to take part in, or watch, the Semana Santa processions across the country. However, warm weather doesn’t necessarily mean dry weather. If you’re living in the Northern or Eastern parts of the country, then you can still expect to see some rain showers during the Easter period. Cities that will experience rain during this period will include Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Oviedo, Bilbao and Santander. Outside of these regions, rainfall will be within normal levels for the time of year. According to weatherandclimate.com the average amount of rainfall in Spain ranges from 5.8mm in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands to 136mm on the west coast of Galicia.

So, to answer the question on everyone’s lips, will it rain on your Easter day parade? There remains a likelihood that Spain will experience some rain during Semana Santa week, but these rain showers will be punctuated by periods of sunshine and higher-than-average temperatures, meaning that this is good news for those hoping to take advantage of the Easter parades.

Will It Rain Over Easter Week in Spain?

Your likelihood of experiencing rain during Easter week will be largely determined by where you are based. It will rain most in Galicia, Asturias and Castilla and León. By contrast, if you live in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands and Murcia then you will be much less likely to experience rain.

Spain is already enjoying better than average weather. March has been both warmer and drier than the averages for the month. According to the Spanish weather agency, "Despite the slight recovery from winter, Spain is still in a meteorological drought in March 2024, which began in January 2024. And since December 2023, we have been in a long-term drought."

What Will the Temperatures Be Over Easter Week in Spain?

Spain will certainly experience a warmer-than-average Easter this year. This is particularly true in areas of Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and inland Andalusia, where the mercury could be 3C to 6C above normal. However, you can expect to see above-average temperatures no matter where in the country you are based.

You will find the best temperatures if you head to Valencia, Murcia or Andalusia. These regions tend to experience the highest April temperatures anyway, but this Easter they will be a degree or two higher. Seville, for example, has an average temperature of about 17C in March with highs that usually exceed 23C.
