The Costa Del Sol’s Best Concerts and Music Festivals in 2023

The Costa Del Sol boasts sun, sea, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere, so it’s no surprise that it’s such a popular location for world-class concerts and music festivals every year. If you don’t already live in the Costa Del Sol then the region is easy to reach from Malaga airport, and accommodation in the area is also plentiful and affordable. So, there’s no reason not to choose the Costa del Sol for your next musical adventure! But which concerts and music festivals should you choose? Here is a breakdown of the best concerts and music festivals on the Costa Del Sol in 2023:

Marenostrum Fuengirola

Marenostrum_Fuengirola

Often considered to be one of the best music festivals on the Costa Del Sol, Marenostrum Fuengirola was first established in 2016 and has a reputation for attracting the best and biggest music stars. Jennifer Lopez performed at this festival as the only European stop of her most recent tour, and other high profile acts that have performed here include Ricky Martin, Bob Dylan, Sting, Alejandro Fernández, Santana and Manuel Carrasco. The hillside location of the performances at Sohail Castle in Fuengirola only enhances the festival.

For 2023, you won’t be disappointed with the line-up. Artists that have already be confirmed to be performing at the festival include Fulanita Fest, Pablo Alborán, Martita de Graná, Robbie Williams, Cosquín Rock, Ultra Beach Costa del Sol, Kany García, Tini, Hombres G, Morat, Locos por la Música, Luna Sur, Boombastic Day, Manuel Carrasco.

Mearenostrum Fuengirola is not a single day, or even a weekend-long music festival but rather a series of individual concerts and performances taking place independently, but at the same venue between May and September 2023. Therefore, you will need to by a separate ticket for each of the acts you wish to see. You can book these directly via their Web site.

Locos por la Musica Festival

One of the biggest and best rock festivals in the Costa del Sol, if not wider Spain, Locos por la Musica Festival is a single day festival event that forms a part of the Marenostrum Fuengirola festival outlined above. This year the festival will take place on Saturday 29th July and its focus will be on celebrating the successes of Spain’s greatest rock groups.

Artists that have already been confirmed to be performing at the festival in 2023 include Melón Diesel, No Me Pises Que Llevo Chanclas and La Guardia. If you are passionate about rock music then there is no better place to be in Spain this year. You can book tickets to attend via the Website

Fulanita Fest

One of the newest festivals on our list, Fulanita Fest is a women’s music festival and this is only the second consecutive year that Fuengirola has played host to this fun and exciting event. The primary aim of the festival is to vindicate the power of music made by women. But the festival offers so much more than just great lie music. You can also expect to enjoy a welcome party, women’s football tournament and performances by DJs. If you need a break from singing and dancing then the event will also host a food market (with vegan and gluten free option). It’s an incredible event, with so many different elements included. Although the event champions women, it is an event created for anyone who wants to enjoy it from respect and equality.

Just like the Locos por la Musica Festival, this single day event forms a part of the Maenostrum Fuengirola festival, meaning that it will be hosted in the same excellent venue, right by the sea. This year the festival will take place on 13th May. You can book tickets to attend via the website.

Starlight Marbella

Taking place over more than 50 days, Starlight Marbella has been hailed as one of the best boutique festivals in Europe. Its natural amphitheatre setting lends the concert a feeling of intimacy, as the artists are much closer to the audience then they might be in a traditional concert hall setting. This is a much smaller music festival than others on the list, but it does boast two distinct performance spaces. The second space is called Sessions and is a much more informal environment where patrons are invited to dance and drink under the stars whilst they enjoy the performances.

Ultra Beach Costa Del Sol is a relatively newly launched music festival that is only in its second edition, but it has already been hailed as one of the most important, significant and famous dance music festivals in the world. Two things make ultra beach so iconic: it’s beautiful beach front venue and the incredible detail and effort that is put into its audio-visual production. Effectively, the beach is turned into an open-air night club!

This year the festival will take place in the Parque del Castillo Marenostrum in Fuengirola on the 24th June. Although only the phase 1 announcement regarding performing acts has been made so far, that have already been confirmed to be performing at the festival in 2023 include Martin Garrix, Vintage Culture, and Wade. What makes the Oh, See! Festival unique is its unusual format, which is unlike any other music festival in Spain. festival-cueva-nerja-2023

If you want to try something truly unique then why not attend a concert held within a series of underground caves? The Nerja Cave is a huge complex of natural underground galleries with guided tours, meaning that it is possible to explore these caves at any time. But every summer a classic music festival takes place at the venue, and some of the performances take place in the caves themselves. For conservation reasons, only a few of the performances listed below will take place inside the cave and most are held in its gardens instead, but it is possible to attend a cave performance here.

The 62nd Cueva de Nerja Music Festival will  take place from 7th July – 12th August and will feature performances by María Peláe, Les Luthiers, Los Morancos, Mecano Experience, Miguel Poveda, Sara Baras, and Pastora Soler will close the festival. You can buy tickets via the website.

Sabatic Fest

sabatic-music-festival-2023

The final festival on our list is a brand new event that will be hosted from 1st June – 15th September. This festival will take advantage of Malaga’s 16,000 square metre drive-in cinema venue and use the space to host concerts. What will make this venue and event unique is that each concert will have a reduced capacity with just 9,000 tickets available, lending the event an intimate feel.  There will be 40 performances included in the event. Not all of the performers have been confirmed at this stage, but we do know that the first artists opening the new festival will be Village People, Boney M., Fakeba and, Humo & Óxido

After each concert, Sabatic Party will feature various performances and DJs. This will lend the whole event a vibrant, party atmosphere that will be unique to Malaga. If all that singing and dancing leaves you with an appetite then you will find plenty of varied gastronomy at the event with organic, seasonal and local ingredients used and options to suit all dietary requirements.
