Richard Gere Visited Malaga! Here’s What The Hollywood Icon Ate While He Was Here

Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s not just regular Joes that flock to this beautiful country every year. Spain also attracts celebrities and Hollywood icons.

Marbella, Ibiza, Mallorca and Madrid are the most popular locations in Spain for international celebrities. But now we can add Madrid to this list of celebrity hotspots, thanks to both Antonio Banderas and now the arrival of Richard Gere.

Richard Gere is Hollywood royalty, having begun acting in films in the 1970s. Some of his most famous roles have been in movies such as American Gigolo, An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, and Chicago.

So what was Richard Gere doing in Malaga? And if you want to follow in his footprints in the city, where should you eat? Here’s everything you need to know:

Why Was Richard Gere In Malaga?

Richard Gere was spotted in Malaga in the audience of the musical Gypsy. This was being performed at the Soho CaixaBank. Gere was invited as a guest of Antonio Banderas, who is the director of the show, and the two watched the performance together.

Spotting Antonia Banderas in Malaga is not a rare occurrence, but to see Richard Gere in the city was very exciting for celeb-spotters.  The actor stayed with his wife, the Spaniard Alejandra Silva, at the Hotel Miramar and was later seen dining at the restaurant Doña Inés.

Doña Inés is a fusion restaurant and is pitched as offering “Quality gastronomy with exceptional wines and the most exquisite cocktails.”  The reason they chose this restaurant? Probably because it is owned by Antonio Banderas and the Tercer Acto group. The group also has other restaurants in the city and is well-known for its high-end eateries.

What Did They Eat?

You might not always be able to live like a celeb (who can afford that) but if you’re visiting Malaga then you can eat like one!  All you have to do is book a table at Dona Ines, and order the following dishes, which were reportedly on the menu served to Richard Gere and Antonio Banderas.

The menu included:

-Grilled artichokes over cream of potato

-Grilled vegetables

-Cheese assortment

-Chorizo criollo

-Grilled pork over romanescu

-Free-range chicken cannelloni

-T-bone of aged wagyu

-A rice pudding dessert. This is reported to be Antonio Banderas's favourite dish on the menu.

Did Richard Gere Enjoy His Time In Malaga?

A great hotel, a delicious dinner, and an excellent show for entertainment? It seems unlikely that Gere could have had a bad time in Malaga!

But let’s hear it from the man himself. At the end of the showing of Gypsy, Gere was full of praise for the musical. He congratulated both the star Marta Ribera and the rest of the cast. He also praised Banderas's commitment to the CaixaBank Soho Theatre, which he described as "beautiful".

Banderas is originally from Malaga, and has returned to the area to promote and participate in local arts. Banderas has also constructed a theatre and arts school called Sohrlin Andalusia which is also in Malaga.

This building has been built in the old Misericordia warehouses, right by the sea. It is a huge space dedicated to all things cultural that will create, produce, provide training for and distribute shows for people to enjoy in the region. The centre has been described as "a 360-degree centre". If you’re interested in the arts, then you’ll already know just how big an impact Banderas has had on the local arts scene.
