Public holidays are always a cause for celebration in Spain. Whether you live in Spain and want to plan a weekend getaway, or live elsewhere and want to visit Spain for the holidays, booking your flights and accommodation early is the best way to get a good deal. Many Spanish travelers choose to take puentes around the public holidays. This is the custom of taking the day off to bridge the weekend with the holiday. And if you want to follow suit and extend your holiday time too, now is the time to start planning!
With that in mind, here is the full list of official Spanish public holidays in 2021:
(And because 2020 isn’t quite over yet, you can find the list of 2020 Spanish public holidays here)
National Public Holidays
Not every public holiday is celebrated in every region. In 2021 there will be eight public holidays that are celebrated across the whole of Spain. They are:
January 1st: New Year’s Day. (In 2021 this falls on a Friday)
April 2nd: Good Friday
May 1st: Workers' Day (In 2021 this falls on a Saturday)
October 12th: Spanish National Day (In 2021 this falls on a Tuesday)
December 6th: Constitution Day (In 2021 this falls on a Monday)
December 8th: Immaculate Conception (In 2021 this falls on a Wednesday)
December 25th: Christmas Day (In 2021 this falls on a Saturday)
Regional Public Holidays
Whilst it is a given that every person living in Spain will be able to take the day off work for these eight public holidays, the other public holidays that you will be able to take if you live in Spain will vary from region to region. If you’re hoping to get away then It’s worth looking for regions that aren’t celebrating public holidays at the same time as you, as these will be less crowded with locals as well as visitors. It’s also worth noting that each local region will also have an additional two days of public holidays, for local Saint’s days, as well as the dates that are outlined below.
