If you’ve always imagined yourself living live in the lap of luxury then the Costa Del Sol is the perfect place to be. From designer boutiques to world class hotels, luxury yacht club to fabulous fine dining options, the Costa Del Sol is fast becoming one of the right places to be seen if you’re spending time in Spain.

Want to know more about the lifestyles of the rich and famous on the Costa del Sol? Here are just some of the best luxury hotels in the region, and some of the celebrities who like to visit them:

The Marbella Club

It would be impossible to talk about luxury and celebrity in the Costa del Sol without mentioning the Marbella Club. This hotel is over 60 years old, but still looks as plush and decadent as ever. Located in prime real estate, in the Golden Mile of Marbella, the hotel is surrounded by its own botanical gardens. You’ll find oranges, bananas, lemons, avocados and figs all growing in the trees around you, adding to the exotic ambience of your stay. What’s more, the gardens here were landscaped by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe himself.

Prince Alfonso isn’t the only famous visitor to the Marbella Club. In its early days both Audrey Hepburn and Carey Grant both visited the resort. In the 1960s, Brigitte Bardot visited to dance in the champagne room with a group of her famous friends whilst more recently, Eva Longoria was rumoured to have stayed in the hotel.

Hotel Villa Padierna

Former American First Lady, Michelle Obama, has become a symbol of class, style and feminine power in the last decade. Her book topped the bestsellers lists for months, and her motivational speaking tours sell out almost as soon as tickets are released. She is a true modern icon. She is also a huge fan of the Costa del Sol!

In 2015 Michelle Obama visited the region with one of her daughters and chose to stay at the Hotel Villa Padierna. Michelle travelled with 68 secret service operatives, and she and her entourage filled 60 of the hotels 129 rooms. Surrounded by three golf courses, minutes from the beach and with a breath-taking neo Roman design, this is a hotel fit for Royalty.

Kempinski Hotel Bahia

One of the most luxurious and decadent hotels in the Costa del Sol is the Kempinski Hotel Bahia. This 5-star hotel is wonderfully centrally located in the Costa del Sol and features a whopping seven restaurants, including the Alminar Wine and Steak House, which serves locally sourced dishes and is considered to be one of the best in the region.

The huge and inviting swimming pool here is a wonderful place to indulge in a spot of celeb spotting. Many of the reality TV stars from The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) regularly frequent the hotel in order to make the most of the spa facilities, which include a Finnish sauna, anti-stress programmes, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy.

Private Villas and Yachts

Of course, it goes without saying that the truly wealthy rarely stay in hotels, preferring to either purchase their own luxury villas or stay in their own hotels on the ocean: super yachts. The vast majority of the largest villas in the Costa Del Sol are privately owned by the rich and famous. Here are just some of the regions famous homeowners:

  • Antonio Bandaras and Melanie Griffiths own a villa by the beach at Los Monteros: Antonio was actually born in Malaga and always attends the Easter Sunday processions in the town.
  • Sir Alan Sugar owns property in the region, and has done so since the 1970s.
  • Sean Connery, (the best James Bond) was a long-term resident of Marbella, selling his home in the region only recently. He can still be spotted playing golf on one of the many local courses.
  • No one does things bigger than Roman Abramovich. He regularly moors his super yacht off the port of Puerto Banus because it is too big to fit inside the harbour.
  • Simon Cowell has a huge home in Sierra Blanca. He often using it for the ‘Judges Houses’ section on the X Factor, meaning that other stars, such as Sinnita and One Direction, have stayed there too.
