There’s always something to see and do in La Cala de Mijas. The annual ‘Mijas rocks’ festival, Malaga’s premier rock event, is hosted here every year. Regular boat tours depart from the village’s small port, where are popular with tourists and locals alike. And La Cala de Mijas boasts a popular market, with market days taking place on Wednesday and Saturday and visitors travelling from across the Costa del Sol to enjoy the produce and authentic goods.

Eating Out and Nightlife

You’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants in La Cala de Mijas. The nightlife here is active, but has a very laid-back feel. You won’t have to worry about attracting a club 18-30 nightclub crowd, but there are plenty of places to enjoy tapas and a glass of wine or to watch your favourite sports matches. If you are looking for night clubs or a bigger night out then Fuengirola is just a short drive away.

La Cala Beaches

La Cala de Mijas is famed for its picture-perfect beaches that wouldn’t look out of place on the front of a postcard. You can walk across the majority of the beautiful beaches in La Cala thanks to its boardwalk, which is a 6km walk that passes through Calahonda and stops just outside of Cabopino.

The two most popular beaches in La Cala are the Playa de la Cala Mijas and the Playa el Bombo. Both are clean and well-maintained beaches that are popular with families, and both offer excellent facilities, including showers and toilets. For many living in La Cala de Mijas the beach is the main focal point of their daily social activities and interactions. The number of highly regarded bars and restaurants make this easy; you could happily spend your days on the beach, never needing to move to a location where you don’t feel sand between your toes!

Whilst it may just be a village, La Cala de Mijas still boasts all of the amenities that you would want and expect so that you can live comfortably without having to travel to the surrounding larger cities or towns. These amenities include a large supermarket, a sports centre and host of sports clubs, and plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. You will also find the medical facilities you need here, including a 24-hour pharmacy.

If you do wish to explore the wider region then you’re in the perfect position, because La Cala de Mijas boasts excellent transport links. Located on the A7 road, you’re perfectly placed to travel the full length of the Costa del Sol, and you’re just a 20-minute drive away from the glitz and glamour of Marbella or a 15-minute drive away from the amenities of Fuengirola.
