It’s no secret that the Costa Del Sol is home to some of Spain’s best beaches. This coastline extends along more than 150 kilometres and is fringed by the Mediterranean Sea.
And where there are beaches, there are beach clubs! The beach bars (chiringuitos) and beach clubs of the Costa Del Sol have a uniquely Spanish feel that will add a touch of sophistication and exclusivity to your beach day experience. And provide a well deserved respite from the heat of the Spanish sun.
So what is a Spanish beach bar? Usually these are places to enjoy cocktails, hearty dining experiences (often backed by renowned Spanish chefs), and good music. But it as the ocean views that they offer that really steal the show.
So we’ve sold you on a beach bar experience! But it’s important to note that not all beach bars are created equally. For every iconic beach bar experience there is a mediocre one.
To help you experience more of the former rather than the latter, here is our complete list of all the best beach clubs in the Costa Del Sol:
The Beach Club Higuerón, Benalmadena
Address: Address: Avda. del Sol, 225, Benalmádena. Telephone: 951 390 025 www.thebeachclubhigueron.com
This beach club is a part of the Higueron Resort hotel, and is a large multipurpose space, meaning visitors can choose the type of experience they want to enjoy. First you could visit The Japo, which is a Japanese fusion restaurant packed with locally sourced ingredients. Next visit The Club, which is a classy pool area. Finally The Beach – you don’t need us to tell you what’s here! You’ll find sun loungers, umbrellas, a classic cocktail bar, and a "casual cuisine" menu designed by chef Diego Gallegos.
Nido, Estepona
Address: Autovía del Mediterráneo, km 151, Estepona. Telephone: 616 508 722 www.nidoplayaestepona.com
The is a Mosh Group beach bar (if that doesn’t mean anything to you then don’t worry, just know it’s a mark of quality!) It’s located below the Los Monteros hotel and the menu has been created in collaboration with renowned Marbella chef Dani García. This is a chic beach bar and it is the quality of its style and design that makes it stand out from the crowd. Helped, of course, by the excellent food! The kitchen, headed up by executive chef Franco Franceschini, focuses on Mediterranean cuisine and zero-kilometre products from the region. You’ll also find a delicious cocktail bar and a stylish pool area here.
Beso Beach, Estepona
Address: N-340, km 160, Estepona. Telephone: 971 349 900 www.besobeach.com
A relatively new spot that has only been opened for two summers, this has quickly attracted an ‘in’ crowd. Located on the shores of Padron beach, you’ll know this club for its oversized B embedded in the crowd and for the slogan 'NoSummerWithoutBeso'. When it comes to cuisine, you’ll find a mix of Basque and Mediterranean dishes on the menu. And you’re just steps away from the beautiful shoreline.
Palapa Beach, Torremolinos
Address: Paseo Marítimo, Los Álamos, 22R, Torremolinos. Telephone: 951 505 100 www.latribujazba.com
Despite being at the far end of the beach in Torremolinos this club tries to make you forget you’re in Spain and embraces a more Caribbean feel instead with tropical plants all over the place. The menu though sticks closer to home. According to Lolita Faura, customer service manager for this restaurant in Torremolinos, "our menu is a fusion of Mediterranean cuisine with oriental nuances. This year, as a new feature, we have opted for cooking on charcoal embers, grilling all the vegetables and meats on the barbecue." As well as a restaurant you’ll also find a cocktail bar, a DJ, live music, and beachside hammocks.
La Plage Casanis, Marbella
Address: Urbanización Golden Beach, Marbella. Telephone: 952 837 862 www.laplagecasanis.com/
Marbella is known for its high end and beautiful beach clubs. And La Plage Casanis is one of the best. The menu here blends the traditional Mediterranean cuisine you would expect from a Spanish beach club with European and Latin flavours. It has been created by executive chef Fabian Cangas. The food is the stand out element here. But you’ll also find comfortable sun loungers on the beach and great music options too.
Nosso, Marbella
Address: Avenida del Limonar, 124, Marbella. Telephone: 665 660 737 www.nosso.es
If you’re looking for a relaxed, bohemian vibe then this is the right beach club for you. You can enjoy a mix of Asian, Mediterranean, and Japanese food here, then relax on the beach with a cocktail as the sun goes down.
Zorrocallao
Address: Avda del Mediterráneo 230, Rincón de la Victoria. Telephone: 689 608 301 www.fayhotels.com
This is an established beach bar that has been located on the Malaga coastline for the last 3 years. The name Zollocalao comes from the belief that “gastronomic concepts must be thought out quietly to be truly innovative”. Expect low key experiences as a result. This beach bar can be found in the Axarquia region of Malaga, below the FAY Hotel. If you’re a foodie and food is the focus of your beach bar experience then this is the place to be. But you’ll still find all the usual amenities and beach service you’d expect from a high end beach bar too. It’s worth noting that this is a small (some might say bijou) beach club with just 20 umbrellas available.
Berebere Oasis de Mar, Torre del Mar
Address: Paseo Marítimo de Poniente, Torre del Mar. Telephone: 635 560 000 www.bereberetdm.com
Located in the heart of the Torre del Mar seafront promenade this is a casual but stylish beach club with an extensive menu. The quality of the service is the stand out feature here. The cocktails are served on tableware designed by José Piñero and the dishes are locally sourced. The result is a beach club with a local, Mediterranean feel.
