Public holidays are a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family, hit the beach, or travel. Many Spanish residents use the public holidays to extend their vacation time or to take a long weekend away.

If you like to plan ahead then the good news is that the official list of Spain's public and bank holidays for 2024 has now been published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Here’s everything you need to know about the official public holidays in Spain for 2024:

How Many Public Holidays Will There Be In Spain In 2024?

In 2024, there will be a total of 12 national holidays. Nine of these days will be shared by each of the autonomous communities, meaning that there will be nine days when everyone in Spain will be taking a public holiday. Many of these holidays, such as Christmas, are the same every year.

Outside of these national holidays there will also be two regional holidays and two local holidays, which will differ from autonomous region to autonomous region. In total this means that there will be 16 public holidays in Spain in 2024.

In Spain it is traditional for public holidays to be called 'Red Days', this is because it was customary to mark them in red on the calendar. Which means that there will be 16 red days in Spain next year.

When Are The Nine National Holidays in Spain for 2024?

The nine bank holidays that will be available in every region of Spain in 2024 are:

January 1: New Year's Day (Monday)

January 6: Three Kings (Saturday)

March 29: Good Friday (Friday)

May 1: Labour Day (Wednesday)

August 15: Assumption of the Virgin (Thursday)

October 12: National Day of Spain (Saturday)

Which Days Will Create A Long Weekend?

Some of this holidays will fall on a Monday or a Friday meaning that Spanish residents can use the holiday to enjoy an extended weekend. This is a great opportunity to travel to see family or to the coast. This year the dates that will create a long weekend are:
